Awaiting decisionConnecticut v. Troconis (appeal)
Will Michelle Troconis's convictions survive her appeal?
Where the case stands
Direct appeal pending in the Connecticut Appellate Court: an 86-page brief (reported Nov. 12, 2025) by attorney Pamela Nagy raises seven main arguments. A separate state habeas petition was denied, and she is appealing that denial as well (reported Aug. 2026).
Background
Former girlfriend of Fotis Dulos, convicted of conspiring in and covering up the May 2019 killing of Fotis's estranged wife Jennifer Farber Dulos, a New Canaan mother of five whose body has never been found. Fotis Dulos died by suicide in January 2020 while charged with the murder.
Charges
- Convicted March 2024: conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to tamper with evidence, tampering with evidence, hindering prosecution
- Sentenced to 20 years, suspended after 14.5 years, plus 5 years' probation
The arguments
Prosecution/State: Troconis knew of and joined Fotis Dulos's plan to kill Jennifer, helped craft a false alibi, and rode along as he disposed of evidence (bags containing Jennifer's blood) along Albany Avenue in Hartford.
Defense: On appeal: the State failed to prove she knew of any plan (insufficient evidence on all counts); the trial court wrongly excluded a custody-evaluation report bearing on her state of mind; and searches of the shared Farmington home violated the Fourth Amendment (home seized four days; second search without a new warrant).
The record
- Televised trial record. The 2024 Stamford trial was fully televised; Court TV hosts verdict and trial video.
- Surveillance footage. Trial centerpiece: video of the Albany Avenue evidence-disposal route on the evening of May 24, 2019, with Troconis in the truck.
The line-setting read at the time this market opened
Affirmance is the base rate, but the appeal is substantive: sufficiency on the conspiracy-to-murder count (no body, circumstantial knowledge evidence) plus preserved Fourth Amendment claims. A reversal on any single count pays N, which tempers a very high guilty-side price.
Awaiting decision — The Appellate Court's decision on the direct appeal — affirm, or vacate any conviction / order a new trial. No oral-argument or decision date reported. The ruling is posted here, and on the board, the moment it's confirmed by two or more independent news organizations.
